Pokemon Go – Downtown St.Catharines was for the benefit of Start Me Up Niagara and the Niagara Region Helping Green ELFS. This event was non-profit and free for all who participated.
Starting around 12:30pm on August 21st eager Pokemon Trainers gathered around the Pavillion at Montebello Park to meet Valerie Chalmers and Pikachu to pick up their time sheets and custom buttons made to commemorate the event. There were two lures going off simultaneously throughout the downtown area The first lures went off at 1:15pm, and went go off every twenty minutes until 2:55 pm, trainers hung around Montebello Park until around 4:oopm. The four PokeStops that were donation stations included Small Batch Co (St.Paul Street), The Old Courthouse (King Street), Mahtay Cafe (St.Paul Street) and Hannelore Headly Old Fine & Books (Queen Street). Participants were encouraged adorn their team colours and donate loose change.
With close to one hundred and fifty participants the downtown area was taken over by a community who cares about their community. The day would not have been possible without the generous local businesses who offered to sponsor the event to cover some of the costs, volunteers and of course people wanting to catch em all. Funding money was used to print time sheets and buttons, all leftover funds were donated. With the help of the Pokemon Go community we were about to raise a total of $336.00 to donate.
