Friday January 12th

Skating at Wayne Gretzkys Winery, 12 to 6pm, located at 1219 Niagara Stone Road in Niagara On The Lake. Bring your skates to enjoy a favourite Canadian activity and relax at the Whisky Bar patio with heaters. They will be serving wine, cocktails, non alcoholic beverages and their winter menu. Skate rentals are available on a first come, first serve basis. $5 per person for skating, $10 for skate rentals. No reservations required, rink is weather dependant.

Twenty Valley Winter Winefest, starting at 5pm tonight, it is a weekend event on main street in Jordan Village. The Winter Winefest brings together Niagara’s top winemakers, chefs and premium VQA wines. Offering great foods, premium wines, sparkling and Icewine served outdoors on the streets of Jordan Village. The event features cozy fire pits and warming stations to help keep you toasty.

SJC Talks Radical Self-Care, 4 to 6pm at the Brock Student Justice Centre. Join the SJC team in a conversation regarding radical self-care for activists, members of marginalized communities and more! They will also be giving away free care packages.

The Florida Project, 6:30 to 8:30 at The Film House located at 250 St.Paul Street in St.Catharines. The Florida Project, director Sean Baker’s beautifully bittersweet portrait of life on the economic outskirts of the Sunshine State, takes place primarily at a flophouse Magic Kingdom both tantalizingly close and impossibly far from the real one.

2018 Icewine Gala, 7 to 10pm at the Fallsview Casino located at 6380 Fallsview Boulevard in Niagara Falls. Experience Canada’s largest VQA Icewine and table wine tasting from over 35 wineries. An all-inclusive elegant evening of fine wine and dining.

Addams Family Auditions, 7pm at Garden City Productions located at 372 Merritt Street in St.Catharines. The chorus is all characters so there is lots of scope. Call Eleanore 905 380 7242 to book your time slot.

Guitar Wars, 7pm at Holy Rosary Hall located at 35 Queen Street South in Thorold. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Tickets are available at Donnelly’s Pub in Thorold.

Saturday January 13th

Welland Farmers Market, 6am to 12pm at the Young Street Market in Welland.

Teddy Time Tales, 10:15 to 10:45am at 425 Carlton Street in St.Catharines. Family library event, for ages 5 & under and their families. Meet in the children’s area every Saturday for 30 minutes of storytelling. Bring your teddy!

Niagara Spring Wedding Show, 12 to 5pm at Holiday Inn located at 327 Ontario Street in St.Catharines. Tickets are $12 at the door. The 21st Annual Niagara Spring Wedding show is a helpful tool for planning your wedding by providing sound advice, trusted vendors and inspiring ideas for celebrating your wedding day.

Snowshoe Through the Vineyards, 12 to 4pm at the Westcott Vineyards located at 3180 Seventeenth street in St.Catharines. $25. One hour guided snowshoeing through their 28 acres of vineyards (or hike) & then return to the tasting room to warm up by the fire and enjoy toasting handmade marshmallows & a glass of Pinot Noir or Chardonnay. Well behaved dogs are welcome to join.

Let’s Paint Water with Helen, 1 to 3pm at Chapel Street Designs located at 46B Front Street in Thorold. Paint an 11 x 14 acrylic water scene. $40, all materials included.

Trolls Kids Paint Workshop, 2 to 4pm at Reccas Crafty Corner located at 36 Daleview Crescent in Fonthill. $25 ages 4 to 14. All materials included.

The Breadwinner, 4 to 5:30pm at The Film House located at 250 St.Paul Street in St.Catharines. Based on Deborah Ellis’ 2000 middle-grade novel, The Breadwinner follows eleven-year-old Parvana with her family in war-torn Kabul, Afghanistan. One day, her father is arrested, and Parvana’s life is changed forever. In a time and place where women are not allowed to leave home without men, her family is left without someone who can earn money. To help her family, Parvana disguises herself as a boy and becomes the breadwinner for the family. And though she is in danger of being discovered, Parvana resolves to find a way to rescue her father.

Monday January 15th

Sustainability Poetry Celebration, 8am at Brock University in St.Catharines. In celebration of UNESCO Poetry Day, Brock University’s Environmental Sustainability Research Centre, and the UNESCO Chair in Community Sustainability would like to invite you to submit your original, unpublished, poem to their sustainability poetry contest. Submission Deadline: February 19, 2018 (5:00pm) Theme: The Future We Want. Submission Categories: Elementary Student, High School Student, College/University Student, and General Public. All residents of the Niagara Region are eligible to enter.

Baby Time, 1:30pm at the Fort Erie Public Library located at 136 Gilmore Road in Fort Erie.  Join them for reading, writing, talking, singing and playing – the five fundamental skills that get children Ready to Read!

Open House – Master Fire Plan, 5 to 6 pm at St.Catharines City Hall located at 50 Church Street in St.Catharines. Use the James Street entrance. On Monday January 15, 2018, from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m., Jeff McCormick the Acting Fire Chief and Acting Director of Fire and Emergency Management Services will host an open house for the purpose of discussing the Master Fire Plan. Acting Fire Chief McCormick will make a presentation and answer questions from the public on the Plan that has been in development for two years.
